United Way Awards Community Investment Grants

The United Way of Wayne County (UWWC) awarded 20 grants to 14 local agencies to support education, financial stability, health and wellness and basic needs in our community. They awarded 4 more grants than the previous year. Totaling over $532,000 these grants are a result of UWWC’s 2020 workplace campaign.

One-year Impact Partner Grants were awarded to support the following programs: Single Family Fires and Armed Forces Emergency Support (American Red Cross), Community Troop (Boy Scouts Tuscarora Council), Community Troop (Girl Scouts, NC Coastal Pines), A Brush with Kindness (Habitat for Humanity), Cry Freedom Outreach and Pregnancy Birth and Beyond (Wayne Pregnancy Care Center), Triple P Parenting (Partnership for Children) and Tutor to the Top (Rones Chapel Area Community Center).

Three-year Community Partner grants were awarded to support the following programs: Aim for Success, SMART Moves and Triple Play (Boys & Girls Club), Meals on Wheels (WAGES), Bank on Wayne and Adult and Family Literacy (Literacy Connections), Men’s Shelter and Emergency Assistance Program (Salvation Army), Teen Court (Communities Supporting Schools), Wayne Uplift Domestic Violence Program (Wayne Uplift Resource Association) and Emergency Assistance Program (Society of St. Vincent de Paul).

“We’re thrilled to be able to expand our partnerships to include 4 more programs this year. All our partners, past and new, make such an impact in our community and we are grateful to be a part of their work, said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director at UWWC.

In addition to these Community Investment grants, the 2020 campaign also supports 2-1-1 in Wayne County, SingleCare Prescription Discount Card , Fill the Theater food drive coordination, Emerging Issues grants, Education grants, disaster relief efforts and the Family Learning Center. Through these investments, United Way of Wayne County will be able to improve over 17,000 lives this year.
