GOLDSBORO, N.C. --- Since the summer of 2020, United Way of Wayne County (UWWC) has worked to support the Wayne County Health Department. That work is set to continue through June with the renewal of the contract from Curamericas Global, Inc. which supports 3.5 Community Healthcare Worker positions to partner with the innovative work of the Wayne County Health Department to reach the vulnerable population. The contract also allows for an Outreach Coordinator who helps deliver emergency food and medication to patients.
This partnership involves promoting the importance of COVID-19 testing and testing sites, as well as vaccine information, assisting with contact tracing, case management for those testing positive with COVID-19, and making reminder calls to those scheduled to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The goal of the partnership is to ensure needs are being met for our most defenseless population. “It has always been our mission to bring people and resources together to improve our community and our Community Healthcare Workers are the embodiment of our mission. We are grateful to be able to bring this resource to our community and support our local Health Department,” said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director of UWWC.
“These local Community Healthcare Workers will continue to serve as allies to families who have not received the support needed to navigate this global health emergency,” said Andrew Herrera, Executive Director of Curamericas Global. “Community-based Healthcare Workers are able to establish trusting relationships with the families, connecting them to vital resources and information, helping them to receive access to care they desperately need, food resources to feed their families or support for employment.”
Curamericas, a recipient of the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Support Services, Community Healthcare Workers grant, is working with more than 25 counties across the state. “We are grateful to partner alongside this professional organization to meet the needs of our community in a stronger way,” said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director.
